In the 1960s and 70s, legendary studios used massive, expensive steel plates to create that iconic, lush reverb. We’ve brought that vintage concept into the 21. century—using raw materials from the local hardware store and a deep understanding of acoustic resonance.
Turning “Garden Scrap” into Sonic Gold
Our custom-built Plate Reverb might look unusual at first glance, but its acoustic properties are undeniable. We constructed it using:
- A solid timber frame and heavy-duty tension springs.
- A 1-square-meter trapezoidal sheet metal panel—the kind typically used for roofing or garden sheds.
- A tactile transducer (exciter) to drive the signal into the metal.
- Dual Piezo pickups to capture the complex vibrations of the plate.
The Effect: Raw, Metallic, and Unmistakable
While digital plugins try to “calculate” what a plate sounds like, our hardware store reverb physically lives the sound.
- The Character: Unlike the smooth, polished shimmer of a digital unit, our plate offers a gritty, dense, and “alive” resonance. It has a physical weight and a metallic edge that is perfect for experimental sound design.
- Experimental Workflow: Because it is a physical object, we can interact with it—dampening the metal by hand or adding objects to the plate to change its harmonic decay in real-time.
Why This Matters for Experimental Projects
For B2B clients in film, gaming, or avant-garde music, “unique” is the most important requirement.
- Authentic Textures: Our DIY Plate provides a spatial depth that feels tactile and “real” because it is real.
- Sonic Signature: It gives your snare drums, vocals, or synth pads a signature sound that no one else can replicate with a standard preset library.
We don’t just use tools. We build the physics of your sound.
