Amidst the techno craze of the 90s, we brought many ideas to life and gained a wealth of experience through events, radio shows, and our own productions. The project took its name from our first track, “Chromosom”—a timeless piece from 1997 featuring a driving rhythm pattern. Over the years, we created numerous techno tracks spanning a variety of sonic styles, and “Chromosom” itself was frequently re-recorded.

The track “chromosom,” with its driving, hypnotic beat and bass pattern, has been re-recorded or remixed repeatedly over the years. The most important versions can be found on YouTube.

the rubber sound – condom track in 2011

In February 2011, a quirky sound design idea came about: we sampled a condom. Not only that—we turned the samples into an NI Battery kit. The sounds were predominantly percussive. Nobody did this ever before.

The recordings were made using a technique for capturing sound: a setup involving the condom, a sturdy cardboard tube acting as an additional resonance chamber, and several microphones. The approach was all about stretching, twisting, and bending; manipulating the condom produced a wide variety of sounds. Everything was recorded first, and the subsequent post-processing required further time.

Shortly thereafter, the track “Comdomat” by chrom.o.som was produced and then shelved. That was a deliberate decision. An extensive search of the platforms available at the time revealed that no one else seemed to have implemented this idea. The track remained on the shelf, and there was a long, drawn-out wait.

At a time when commercial library providers are either racing to outdo one another or failing, and we are constantly being presented with musical prodigies, it is astonishing that no one else out there has a similar idea.
